Honour Your Parents

Dangers of Not Honouring Our Parents.

Beloved brethren, today I want us to reflect on the sacred duty of honouring our parents and the risk of not doing so.

In Proverbs 30:11, we read a very sobering truth:

"Some people curse their father and do not thank their mother."

This verse exposes a troubling reality - that there are those who disrespect and dishonour the very ones who brought them into this world, nurtured them, and sacrificed for their wellbeing.

Proverbs 30:17 delivers a stern warning:

"The eye that mocks a father and despises a mother's instructions will be plucked out by ravens of the valley and eaten by vultures."

This verse paints a vivid picture of the consequences that await those who treat their parents with contempt and disregard.

The way we treat our parents is a reflection of the condition of our hearts.

When we curse them, fail to express gratitude, and disregard their wisdom, we are not only dishonouring them, but we are also dishonouring God who entrusted them to us.

The fifth commandment clearly states,

"Honor your father and your mother" (Exodus 20:12).

This is not a mere suggestion, but a divine mandate that carries with it the promise of a blessed life.

When we honour our parents, we are honouring God and positioning ourselves to receive His favour and blessings.

Let us cultivate a heart of gratitude, respect, and obedience towards our parents.

Let us bless them, support them, and learn from their wisdom, even as they grow older.

Let us guard our hearts against the temptation to mock or despise our parents no matter any contrary “justification”.

Instead, let us honour them, that we may obey God and attract His blessings.

May God grant us the grace and the wisdom to honour our parents with joy at all times.

Remain "a Parent Honouring Believer".
