Bless Your Children Early, When Your Eyes Are Not Dim.
Today, we want to draw wisdom from the tale of Isaac, blessing Jacob instead of Esau.
Genesis 27:1-4 NLT
1. One day when Isaac was old and turning blind, he called for Esau, his older son, and said, “My son.”“Yes, Father?” Esau replied.
2. “I am an old man now,” Isaac said, “and I don’t know when I may die.
3. Take your bow and a quiver full of arrows, and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.
4. Prepare my favourite dish, and bring it here for me to eat. Then I will pronounce the blessing that belongs to you, my firstborn son, before I die.”
Isaac, in his old age and fading eyesight, desired to bestow blessings upon his firstborn son Esau.
But in his weak state, he was unable to discern the true nature of his sons.
Esau, the elder son, was impulsive, while Jacob, the younger son, was cunning and manipulative.
Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah, deceived the old man and stole the blessing meant for Esau.
The blessing that should have gone to the firstborn son Esau was usurped by the younger Jacob, leading to an enmity with lasting consequences.
This tragic episode highlights the importance of blessing our children while our faculties are still sharp. When our eyes are not dimmed.
It is during the prime season of our lives, when we can easily and clearly discern the true character and potential of our children, that we must pour out our blessings upon them.
The blessings we impart upon our children are not mere words. They carry the weight of divine authority and the power to shape the destiny of our children.
If we wait until our senses are dulled by the passage of years, we risk missing the mark, like Isaac did with Esau and Jacob.
Moreover, the blessings we bestow upon our children are not meant to be manipulated or usurped.
They are the rightful inheritance of our children, to be freely given with wisdom and prayer.
When we withhold or delay these blessings, we open the door for the enemy to sow discord and division within our families, as we see in the bitter enmity between Esau and Jacob.
Let us learn from the mistakes of Isaac and resolve to bless our children early, when our eyes are still bright and our judgement is sharp.
Let us bless our children from our hearts, guided by the Holy Spirit, and do it early enough
In doing so, we will ensure that the mantle of divine favour rests upon them, empowering them to walk in the fullness of their God-given destinies.
May we be vigilant and proactive in blessing our children, that they may be established in the love and purpose of God.
Let us not wait until our senses are dulled, lest we miss the mark and open the door for the enemy to sow discord and division.
Instead, let us bless our children early, while we have the clarity to see their true nature and potential.
In doing so, we will secure their future and honour the Lord with our obedience.
May Esau-Jacob drama never happen in our families in Jesus
