Maina Kageni used to weigh 90kgs before deciding to hit the gym.The 50 year old was a truck driver in USA before returning to Kenya to take up a job at Radio Africa.Initially,he worked at Kisii FM before shifting to Classic 105 FM to partner with Mwalimu Kingani.Their show almost ended the Career of Caroline Mutoko as a large proportion of Radio fans shifted their loyalty to Classic FM.
Despite being a successful radio host,Maina did not progress past high school,he dropped out of high school.The English he speaks is due to his family background(he comes from an n affluent family) and the fact that he lived in the US.His parents live in Karen where Maina spent his childhood.
Maina's monthly salary is in excess of Ksh 1.2 million.Without him,Radio Africa could not be where it is.
His career and growth proves that passion and talent supersede education--though education is essential.Maina holds only High School certificate.
You can see Maina is still strong in Radio Africa and he is not retiring any time soon but Mutoko has retired yet they are age mates.One thing you'll notice about the media industry is that women are employed based on their beauty,as a soon as their beauty starts diminishing,they get replaced with younger women...but men will work even past 70 years.The likes of Jeff Koinange are still working.
