WHY JESUS TAUGHT WITH STORIES AND PARABLES.
Beloved brethren, Jesus, the master storyteller, used engaging stories and parables in His teaching ministry.
Some of the Parables are:
1. The Parable of the Prodigal Son. Luke 15:11-32
2. The Parable of The Sower. Matthew 13:3-9.
3. The Parable of The Good Samaritan. Luke 10:25-37
4. The Parable of The Ten Virgins. Matthew 25:1-13.
And many others.
At one point, The Disciples themselves asked Jesus why He used stories and parables.
Matthew 13:10 KJV,
"And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?"
Here are 3 out of many compelling reasons why Jesus did so:
1. To Reveal The Truth to the Humble:
Parables hid the deeper meaning from those who were proud and self-righteous, while revealing important truths to those with open hearts and open minds.
2 To Challenge Assumptions:
Parables forced listeners to think critically and question their own notions about God, about themselves, about their faith, and about the world and the creation.
3. To Make Spiritual Truths Memorable:
Stories are engaging and easier to remember than abstract theological concepts.
This made Jesus's teachings more accessible and impactful for his followers up today.
These Parables continue to inspire and challenge people of all ages, all religions, all nations over two thousand years after.
A good pastor must trust God for grace to engage relevant stories, parables, quotes, etc in his sermons for more Impact.
