REACHING OUT TO GenZ WITH THE GOSPEL:
Beloved brethren, it is not a secret anymore that GenZ and the other younger generations are growing in their distaste for religion and religious institutions including Christianity.
They increasingly view religious institutions and religious people as out of touch or even irrelevant.
For a nation like Kenya with an average age of 19 years, that is not good.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is not a religion: it is a relationship with God through Christ.
To reach out to GenZ and the young generations with this fact require a change of tactics.
GenZ are not looking for Biblical quotes and religious jargons.
They are looking for something that will change their lives and change their circumstances.
They are looking for authenticity, justice, unconditional love and fairness.
The question is:
How do we reach out to these precious generations?
1. Speak Their Language with Love and Truth:
Jesus always met people where they were.
He didn’t come with judgment, but with compassion.
In John 1:14, the Bible says:
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us... full of grace and truth.”
2. Be The Example They Can See.
Many young people are not looking for a sermon from us. They are watching our lives.
3. Use Technology and Creativity.
Jesus taught with stories (parables), not lectures.
Today’s stories are often told on screens: TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook etc.
Let us go where the young generations are.
Let us tell testimonies, make short videos, write songs, start podcasts, and share the gospel in creative, compelling ways.
As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:22,
“I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
4. Empower Them to Serve and Lead.
Jesus did not just teach the disciples: He sent them out.
Let us not wait for young people to be “old enough” to serve.
Give them assignments now!
David was a teenager when he defeated Goliath.
Timothy was young, yet Paul entrusted him with major responsibilities.
The gospel is still the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16).
No generation is beyond the reach of the love of Christ including GenZ and other young generations.
Let us rise up, not with LOUDER SERMONS, but with GENUINE COMPASSION.
Let GenZ and every young soul see Jesus in us.
