In Relationships, Look Ahead, Not Behind.
Today, I desire to try and unpack the wise saying, that states,
“To build a good relationship, focus on improving the future, not dissecting the past."
As we navigate the complexities of relationships, whether with a spouse, family member, friend, or colleague, it can be tempting to dwell on the past and dissect every misstep or shortcoming.
However, the wise saying reminds us that the key to building good relationships is to focus on improving the future, not getting caught up in the mistakes of the past.
The Scriptures support this approach too. Take Philippians 3:13, as an example;
"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.".
In this verse, Apostle Paul encourages us to let go of the past and press forward towards the future.
Rather than dwell on our failures or shortcomings, we should set our sights on the goals and opportunities that lie ahead.
This mind-set allows us to move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
Another scriptural example is Ephesians 4:32,
"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
This scripture reminds us that the foundation of healthy relationships is rooted in kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
When we focus on the future and choose to extend grace to one another, we create an environment where growth and healing can thrive.
By letting go of the past and reaching forward to the future, we can cultivate meaningful, strong relationships that are built on a foundation of kindness, forgiveness, and a shared vision for a better tomorrow.
It’s indeed true:
"To build a good relationship, focus on improving the future, not dissecting the past,"
