Key Learning Points From The Mystery Of Feet Washing - John 13:1 - 17



Key Learning Points
1.     Feet Washing Is A Mystery Of Transfer Of Spiritual Virtues From Jesus To His Disciples.
John 13:3
- Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

Revelation 5:12 -
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive POWER, and RICHES, and WISDOM, and STRENGTH, and HONOUR, and GLORY, and BLESSING.

2.     Feet Washing May Not Be Understood At First But The Spiritual Effects Are Always Clear Thereafter John 13:6 -7
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

Feet washing May Look Foolish – I Corinthians 1:23 -25
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.


3.     Feet Washing Is A Demonstration Of Servant-Hood
John 13:12 – 15
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
Matthew 20:27 - And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Matthew 23:11
- But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

4.     Feet Washing Is a demonstration of Humility (Meekness)
John 13:16
- Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
Matthew 5:5
- Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Psalms 22:26
- The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

Psalms 37:11
- But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Psalms 25:9 - The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

James 4:6 ..
God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

5.     Christians Ought To Wash One Another’s Feet Following The Example Set By Jesus Himself –
John 13:15
- For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

6.     Feet Washing When Done With Understanding Brings Happiness
John 13:17
- If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
