Sunday School Teachings - You Are Your Brother's Keeper

TEXT: Genesis 4:9 - And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

BIBLICAL CHARACTERS
:  Jesus – He was so concerned about the welfare of His friends that even when Lazarus died, he took a long journey to go and bring him back to life – John 11:11 - These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 17:17 - A friend is loving at all times, and becomes a brother in times of trouble. (BBE)
Objective: Help the children learn and understand the importance of being a brother’s keeper.

How To Be A Brother’s Keeper
1.      By Visiting Your Friends When They Are In Trouble Or in A Needy Situation.A good example is when Lazarus died many of his friends came to console themJohn 11:19- And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

2.      By Loving Your Friends At All Times Even When They Have Annoyed You.Proverbs 17:17 - A friend is loving at all times, and becomes a brother in times of trouble. (BBE)
Proverbs 18:24 - A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
3.      By Correcting Your Friends When They Are Planning Or Doing Wrong ThingsProverbs 27:5 - Open rebuke is better than secret love.
Ecclesiastes 7:5
- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.Proverbs 27:17 - Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance (Character) of his friend.
BIBLICAL TRUTH: God expect us to be our brothers keeper – Genesis 4:9

When did you last rebuke a friend for doing a wrong thing?
POSITIVE CONFESSION: - I will show concern to my friends whenever they are in a needy situation.
