Honouring You Father And Mother

It is human nature to forget the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us to be where we are now.

Exodus 1:8 - Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

But this same Joseph had saved Egypt during famine
Genesis 47:15 - And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.

Because God knows men forget easily, He gave a commandment for us to honour our father and mother
Exodus 20:12 - Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Honour Means,
1.     Value
2.     Prize (Including public show of respect)
3.     Revere – highly respect someone
4.     Esteem

Honour is not only given on for MERIT but also for RANK.
Example: We are expected to honour our president whether we agree with his policies or not.

Honouring Your Father And Mother Is The Only Commandment With A Promise.
Ephesians 6:1 – 3
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
There Greatest Blessing Is “THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH THEE”
When it is well with thee, you live long. You business, job, marriage, family etc lives long

We can never outgrow God’s commandments therefore you can NEVER OUTGROW honouring your father and mother.

Honouring Our Parents Is Pleasing To God.
Colossian 3:20 - Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

Solomon The Wisest Man In The Bible Said The Following:
Proverbs 1:8 - My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother
Proverbs 13:1 - A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

It Is Dangerous To Mock Or Despise Your Parent:
Proverbs 30:17 - The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Example of Jesus Christ
1.     He Honoured His Earthly Parents
Luke 2:51 - 52

51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

2.     He Honoured His Heavenly Parents
John 5:30 - I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Matthew 26:39 - And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
