Curses Have Causes

As the bird by
wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
Proverbs 26:2
Proverbs 26:2
For every curse that anyone is experiencing in his
life, there is a cause. And when that cause is discovered and taken care of,
the curse is broken. There is always a reason behind every affliction in a
man’s life.
There’s this story told by Derek Prince, an anointed
man of God, who has some unusual insight into the subject of blessings and
curses. He said there was this lady judge in America, who was delivered from
some demonic oppressions and was doing well after that. Then she travelled out
to Israel and when she returned, began to feel uncomfortable and kept thinking
of committing suicide. So her family phoned the man of God, to say she was back
in her former problem.
Derek Prince said as he was praying, the Lord told
him to ask what kind of souvenirs she brought back from her trip. It was
discovered that she had bought one of those idols which was being sold as
souvenirs. And as soon as that idol was burnt, that demonic hold on her was
broken!
Now listen: she bought a souvenir innocently and
brought it into her home, but because it was an accursed thing "in the
camp", she came under a strange curse that kept pushing her to take her
own life! That’s how bad things can be.
You remember Achan’s sin that brought about the
Lord’s anger and Israel’s defeat at Ai?
But the
children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the
son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took
of the accursed thing: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the
children of Israel. And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest
thou thus upon thy face?
Israel hath
sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for
they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and
dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
Therefore the
children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs
before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you
any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
Joshua 7:1,10-12
Joshua 7:1,10-12
Behind every curse there is a cause. To every
affliction in life, there is a root; and when the root is discovered and rooted
out, then there comes a refreshing.
There’s also this story of how it was discovered
during President Reagan’s tenure in office, that the Americans had once
maltreated the Red Indians, resulting in the Indians cursing the government of
the day. From that time on, every twenty years, the American President in
office was assassinated.
American Christians went through history and
discovered there was something wrong and they began to pray curse-breaking prayers.
And that’s how President Reagan narrowly escaped being assassinated! It is
believed that that curse was broken from that time. If it hadn’t been
discovered and broken, it would have continued.
This tells us very clearly that for every curse upon
any life, there is a reason somewhere; which when uncovered and properly
handled, the person is on his or her way to liberty. If we can get rid of the
causes of these curses, then we will live a life of liberty.
"There’s no smoke without fire", they say.
That smoke in your life is because there is a fire somewhere. Until you are
able to deal with the source of fire, the smoke continues. I see all the smokes
of evil brought to a final end in your life, in the precious name of Jesus! If
you will be humble enough for God to show you the cause, and you deal with it,
you will enjoy true liberty.
There is this account in 2 Samuel, when Saul and
Jonathan were slain and David, bemoaning their death said:
Ye mountains of
Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of
offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield
of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.
2 Samuel 1:21
2 Samuel 1:21
This took place over three thousand years now, but
till date, that mountain has nothing green on it! No rain falls there, it’s
eternally dry as it were! Just because of a curse placed upon it!
Friend, whatever won’t let rain fall on your life,
may it be discovered now, so that you can enjoy the refreshing that comes from
heaven, because it’s your birthright. Every curse on your life that makes life
choking, God will bring them to light and you will be delivered from them!
Most of the curses in life are self-procured.
In Jeremiah 2:13 - 14 God said:
For my people
have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters,
and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Is Israel
a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?
