James and John - The Sons of Thunder - Mark 3:14-17

Mark 3:14-17
14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

Why did Jesus nicknamed James and John "The Sons of Thunder"?
No one really knows but from other accounts of these two apostles, I can presume the following seven things:

1. Sons of Thunder are zealous 
2. Sons of Thunder cannot be ignored
3. Sons of Thunder are dependable
4. Sons of Thunder are the right material for an "inner circle", "Kitchen Cabinet"
5. Sons of Thunder have a gift or personality traits that distinguishes them from others
6. Sons of Thunder are the right material for "Special Assignment" or "Special Missions"
7. Sons of Thunder have the capacity to experience and witness higher dimensions of miracles, signs and wonders. 

Let us look at some of the encounters James and John had with Jesus that makes me come to the conclusions above. Notice also that Simon nicknamed Peter is also a major figure in these three cases.

Case 1 - Resurrection of The Little Daughter of Jairus:
Luke 8:49-55
49 While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.
50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
51 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.

Case 2 - The Mountain of Transfiguration
Luke 9:28-36
28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 
29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.
35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

Case 3 - Prayer at Garden Gethsemane
Mark 14:32-34
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

Peter and The two "Sons of Thunder" James and John are the only apostles who wrote a book or books in the Bible!

James book has FAITH as it main theme, while LOVE is the main them of the books authored by John.

Could you also be "A Son of Thunder" without knowing?
